On 4 January 2022, Blackberry are closing the APN service which supports:
Blackberry 7.1 OS and earlier
Blackberry 10 software and earlier
Blackberry PlayBook OS 2.1 and earlier
After this date, phones using this software will no longer be able to receive updates, so will no longer provide a reliable service for data, phone calls, emergency calls and texts. You can find out more here.
If you want to keep your Tesco Mobile connection, you’ll need to upgrade your Blackberry to a more recent smartphone. You can check out our latest offers on our website, by visiting your local store, or by calling 0800 030 40 30 or 4422 (from your Tesco Mobile, when calling within the UK).
If you’ve already got another smartphone, you can transfer your SIM to this phone at any time before 4 January 2022.
Blackberry have chosen to decommission their legacy services for Blackberry 7.1 OS and earlier, Blackberry 10 software and earlier, and Blackberry PlayBook OS 2.1 and earlier. They’ve chosen to focus on providing security software and services.
If you choose a more recent smartphone, then you may also need a new SIM. If you do, just call us for free on 4422.
Yes, Blackberry Android phones, using the standard Tesco APN, are not affected by the closure of these services.
