Fitting a soft top

I have acquired a soft top for my 2004 3 door Freelander and before I start trying to fit it I thought it might be sensible to find out if there are any tips and tricks or even a definitive fitting guide .

Thanks (I hope)
Mike

Sure, I'll have a search on the web first, and hopefully some of the wiser heads on this forum will have a suggestion or two.

from pictures I've seen, there don't seem a lot to it

although pictures would be great, as the soft tops seem to be like rocking horse poo, my missus is a seamstress (repairs motorbike leathers) so I'm sure with a pattern/measurements she could easily whip a copy up

One of these or the proper one?

The proper on, with side windows and a place for the existing rear window.
That looks smart - professionally made?

Shower curtain? Haha.

Good tip is to soak interior in petrol and add an ignition source couple of matches usually work. Then purchase yourself a discovery or defender.

the piece of metal thats holding the top out for rear head height, how does that fit into the rear?

is the skirt tightened around the opening with a drawcord of some description, or elasticated?

It's a three piece round bar, it just pushes into the mounts on the pillars and its own tension holds it in, it goes thru a tube in the canvas to locate it. There's a zip up each side, plastic channel clips along the top, bungees and Velcro at the bottom

I can see we are all going to have to watch what we write with this fella about! Surely he must have a section of chassis to weld? Fingers crossed

Hi manxmike, I have a freelander 1 (2000) and the full land rover fitting instruction book that came with my lander for all the roofs, apart from the shower cover shown in the large photo that has been posted. I have printed the book in separate pages and also managed to put them into PDF format. Only problem is don't know how to add this format or photo's to this site, but if you would like a copy contact me and will get them to you some how.
